Networking

Annual Southland Conference

The Southland Conference is a longstanding AED tradition, having been held at USC since 1966 to help expose pre-health students to networking opportunities with physicians in the LA area. The conference is open to all pre-health students on campus and hosts around 20 physicians and 150 students, making it one of the largest pre-health events of the year. AED Members are given priority registration to the conference.

Physician Mentorship Program

Each semester we pair around 25 of our members with physician mentors from varying specialties and backgrounds. The program hopes to facilitate professional growth through one-on-one discussions about topics such as mock medical school interviews, funding medical school, and shadowing opportunities. This gives members a unique opportunity to get personal guidance from physicians who are excited to offer advice and support their career goals.

Suturing 101 Workshop

Each semester, we host our Suturing 101 Workshop for Prospective Full Members to engage in interactive instruction through common suturing techniques used in the medical field from a guest physician. Free suturing kits are provided for all members and can be taken home for further practice!

And More!

Throughout the year, we host a diverse array of guest speaker events and panels to provide our members with firsthand insight into relevant topics. Some examples include our Different Paths Into Medicine Panel: Exploring MD, DO, and DDS Fields; our Physician Series Events where we brought in 12 physicians to speak on their various medical specialties throughout the semester; and several collaboration events with other pre-health organizations.
